Rotor Problems and Your Automobile

The rotors are an important part of your car, truck, or utility vehicle’s brake system. When you press down on the brake pedal, brake fluid moves the calipers into the brake pads. This forces the brake pads against the rotors. This contact creates friction. The friction generates kinetic energy. This is how your automobile stops. Over time, the rotor surfaces can warp or smooth out. This will not only because the following problems but also affect how easily you can slow down and stop your automobile.

Wobbling Steering Wheel

If the rotors are warped, your steering wheel may wobble when you apply the brakes. At first, you may not notice the movement because it is subtle, but as the rotor surfaces get worse, the movement will become more noticeable. Nothing should wobble when you apply the brakes, including your steering wheel or your vehicle. If there is movement, there is something wrong.

Wobbling Brake Pedal

Alongside the steering will, your brake pedal may also wobble or vibrate under your foot. This, too, points to a problem with the rotors. It can also be a sign that you have road debris stuck in the calipers. Either way, the rotors or the calipers need to be repaired or replaced in order to smooth out your vehicle’s braking process. It is important to have these issues addressed as soon as possible.

Squealing Brakes

When the rotor surfaces are too smooth, your brakes will squeal when you apply the brakes. This can create a huge problem because the smooth rotor surfaces will be unable to generate as much friction as they normally do. Consequently, you may notice that it takes a longer distance in order for your vehicle to stop. Do not take chances. Bring your vehicle to our shop right away so we can inspect the brakes.

Rotors That Are Blue
