Are Some Automotive Fluid Colors Neon?

Yes, you may have engine coolant that is neon green or yellow. But rather than just focus on neon automotive fluid colors, let’s focus on all of the automotive fluid colors in this blog post. Rick’s Auto Center explains that it’s good to know the different colors of the fluid in your automobile to help you determine what is leaking if your vehicle develops a leak.

Blue

For example, if you have blue spots or puddles on your garage floor, your car, truck, or utility vehicle is probably leaking the cleaning solution used for the windshield. This solution is blue. In unusual cases, you may also have blue engine coolant, but this is rare.

Brown

If you see brown spots on the garage floor, your vehicle is leaking either differential or motor oil, brake fluid, or old and dirty transmission fluid. As you can imagine, it can be a bad idea to drive your vehicle if it is leaking any of these fluids.

Clear

Clear fluid is usually water that is dripping from the air conditioning unit. You may also see water dripping out of your tailpipe. Don’t take this for granted, however. Take a moment to smell the clear fluid to make sure it doesn’t smell like gasoline or diesel fuel.

Green

As we mentioned in the introduction to this blog post, your engine coolant may be neon green. It may also be green-blue or blue-green. You can check the color of your engine coolant by popping the hood when your engine is cold and looking at it in the overflow reservoir.

Orange

You are going to discover as you keep reading that engine coolant comes in many different colors. Another such color is orange. The coolant may be orange originally or it may turn orange if your radiator has rust on the inside of it.

Red

Engine coolant can also be red, as can brake fluid. The other red fluids in your automobile are the power steering fluid and the transmission fluid. As you can see, red and brown are popular colors for automotive fluids.

Yellow

Finally, and as we previously mentioned, you may have neon yellow coolant in the engine. The coolant may also be yellow-green. It’s also important to note that brake fluid is so light when it is new that it may also be yellow.
